The Winter GamesThe Winter Games were only added as part of the Olympic Games in 1925, when the Olympic Committee officially created a separate Winter Olympic Games and retropectively named the 1924 games in Chamonix, France as the first Winter Games.
The committee had decided in 1921 to create a Winter Games, because winter sports were integrated into the Summer Games list. In 1908 the first winter sport added was figure skating, followed in 1920 by ice hockey.
The Winter Games have only ever been canceled twice- in 1940 and 1944 due to World War II.
